Why do we need a part 13?
Because the forum software has trouble with threads over 2000 posts, so ongoing threads get split into new parts around that point.

You are still not getting it. It does cost a fraction to build things outside the US.
Ohhh, I get it. Trust me. But there's more to "it" than just a 3-paragraph overview of the entire way the US decides to do business. I think a high percentage of Americans will agree that the business models (taxes, outsourcing, low US manufacturing, unions, wages, health benefits, etc) are basically killing our way of life.
Maybe in 10-15 years the US will finally realize how much damage has been done and will start to get back in shape.

AMD is in a similar case right now. Many people are turning away from AMD to Intel simply because AMD sucks now. So AMD is trying to get their ass together to innovate further. Thus giving us faster and faster CPUs from both AMD or Intel. Competition is good. Apple needs to compete more aggressively.

This is my set up while on rotations in hospitals. Very handy as a mobile office!

Still on the fence about getting the 11.6" mba. While small, I think multitasking will be a nightmare on it. So cute though!
Omg That case is FANTASTIC! Where did you get it???

...finally...
Apple has dropped the ball here. Now that most laptops ship with the same chips, Apple can't claim the "Mhz Myth" or anything like that. They will have to keep up to speed, no pun intended.

I just downloaded the update, it told me something failed and I need to restore my iPhone. I am on try 3 and it is still failing every time it tries to restore. It's giving me error code 1013. I would stay away from this update for at least a day or two until others give feedback. It doesn't seem to be that critical of an update anyways.
x2 :(
I had to do the restore on another/different machine after with new iTunes install. I then after could get it back and up and sync'd on my Mac.
(my hosts file only has the one 127.0.0.1 entry) (creating a new user account on the original Mac did not work either)

i think you are confused my friend... where did i ever say that? In fact earlier in this thread i said...
then another poster said
and you replied
what does being tied to a single iTunes account have to do with charging your iDevice?
As for wireless sync and inductive charging... dumb idea imo
I replied with "so you never charge" to say that even with wireless syncing one will have to charge iDevice at some point (matter of days if it's an iPhone, maybe a week if it's an iPod - both in use not just on a shelf). Why drain battery by syncing when you can charge batter while syncing and with wireless sync that can be done by induction charging which is slow and charger is costly ergo makes little sense. I'm all for wireless sync in addition to current wired method though. One more option is good.

[It should be prety clear to most people that an iPod with a screen large enough to read would be WAY to large to cary around on a belt clip and use as a music player.
It would be hard to make a good book reader. Even the screen on the Mac Book is not nearly as good as a printed page and I can't image a MB like screen on an iPod
What I'm waiting for are the "iGlasses". It is a display that look like a pair of eye glasses. Some kind of projector is built into the frame.

I had a small kernel of hope that they'd ditch the integrated GPU, but I sort of knew it wouldn't happen...
Still, this is a very nice machine, probaby the best iBook ever. The C2D is so powerful compared to the G4 it's mind boggling.

What happened to it?
The palm rest (which has already been replaced once) is chipping up from the corner. Its also lifting up from the left side next to the CAPS LOCK button. A few keys (shift and the arrows) are getting mushy. The screen bezel is coming off from the right side. The top of it is chipping off as well.
There are also hairline cracks where the heat is released. Finally the bottom of the thing is heat discolored very dark.
My wife has a new unibody Macbook and the build construction is so much better than my old whitebook.

I have two RS stores within 10 minutes of my home but the ones with iPad 2's are over a hour away. Bummer.

Guys, the Finder is the top secret feature. It doesn't take a genius to work that out. That's why the Finder shown in the preview yesterday is exactly the same as the Finder in Tiger.

"switchers" ... plain and simple :D
Buyer satisfaction with other Apple products is clearly filtering down into Mac sales. This trend will only continue to strengthen.
I made the switch in 2009.
The race to the bottom in the PC world made it a fairly easy decision.
Also the fact that the web apps that are available now makes it a lot easier to make the software transition from PC to Mac. A lot of us had software that we didn't want to re-buy in Mac format so it perpetuated the cycle.
I know people in my limited sphere of influence are now switching to Macs because I can no longer provide any windows tech support :D

Excellent! I'll plan on saving a few bucks then to upgrade.
Thanks for the info.
Yes, they're a reasonable price, but keep in mind it's not going to be anywhere near $30.
If it's inline with previous OS X updates (besides snow leopard, which was a very special case of mostly under-the-hood improvements with fewer improvements that the user would notice), the it will be probably be around $100.

whether or not they did this. although with how hard the pressure all of their suppliers, i would NOT believe that they didnt exert some form of pressure on the movie studios

Your not paying a premium for the color, you get 8GB. What sucks is you can't get 8GB in colors, lame move on Apple's part with no reason behind it.
I agree with you on the color restriction for the 8GB models; I was really hoping for total color choice across the board when I first saw the updated store picture (missed the keynote). Especially with the new SanDisk 8GB players, I thought Apple might offer a bit more choice on a high end model to entice more people (I suppose I can live with black, though; at least it's not vomit colored or something  )

Reset PRAM, apparently that broke CoreDuoTemp sensor because mine is reading 12C, iStatPro is reading 12 C as well, but smcFanControl is reading 72 C. Week 27 MacBook by the way. So my suggestion is, if your MacBook has no issues or you are fine with how it is running right now, DO NOT UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE.
Just become some hacky software to read chip temperatures broke doesn't mean you shouldn't install an important firmware update.
Didn't you see the white 'just kidding' above the picture?
Once I started the rumor of the black Macbook actually beeing made of aluminum with some black vinyl on it (thus the $150 premium). A week later, I heard from someone totally messing up his Macbook trying to remove 'the black layer' on his brand new Macbook with a cutter. I laughed my ass of for a week. Totally worth it. :D
Duuude, you're soooo cool (and quite a fibber).

Is it likely that this update will eliminate the need to use the smcfancontrol app that so many have recommended to combat the RSS? Or would you continue to use it as well???
